Going Platinum: Full Review and Recap of The CurvyCon

Good Day Lovelies,

What a week!!!! I just have been moving a mile a minute but I definitely couldn’t let the week go by without giving a full review of my first CurvyCon!!!! Let’s just say in one word my experience was AMAZING!!! Honestly I could stop the review now but for the sake of giving you all the information that you need to know about attending The Curvycon and why Platinum is the ONLY way to go.

Fortunately, I stayed less than 5 minutes from the venue, at the Park 70 Iberostar (which had the most amazing customer service might I add so definitely check them out) so that made my experience even greater, because I didn’t have to adjust my schedule that much to get to any event I wanted to attend. That definitely will probably be my hotel of choice because it is literally 2 blocks from 5th Avenue which is IDEAL for all things NYFW.  Thank God for HotelTonight and my wonderful family that made all things possible for me to attend this year.

Day One: Macy’s Kickoff Party

So festivities kicked-off with an invite only to the happy hour mixer powered by Macy’s where Platinum members were able to get up close and personal with the founders, see first hand the fall collection by INC. Concepts, and of course celebrate one another all the fashion in the room.  In addition, Macy’s gave away $3,000.00 worth of prizes (yes you read that correctly), which included four gift cards worth $250. two gift cards worth $500 and one grand prize worth $1,000!!! Can you say a fashionista’s dream?! Additionally, the hors d’oeuvres were amazing. From Tuna TarTar bites, tacos, to mini sliders, the service was non-stop and timely, so I actually left fully satisfied.  To my surprise, I had no idea that we were getting a swag bag at this event, but was excited because I had never seen so useful stuff in one swag bag before (and that was just the first of many items to come). My favorite part of the evening was just being able to network and meet new fashionable faces in the curvy community. I always love the energy plus positive events bring!

Day Two: Fashion, Fitness, and Everything In-between

So if you were following my stories on instagram at all you know Friday was jam packed with excitement, starting with a fun fitness focused event headed by Jessie Diaz-Herrera Curves With Moves (curvesiwthmoves on ig) and the Dancers from Beychella Jore Marshall and Amari (joremarshall and amarimonster on ig)!!! Honestly, I wish that these types of classes were offered closer to the DMV on a regular basis where all women of curves could feel free to move and enjoy one another while also focusing on their health.  This event was powered by Target and their line of workout gear Joy Lab which caters to women of size.  I plan to order every outfit I possibly can to reach my fitness goals. Being plus-size and suffering from PCOS/Diabetes, working out is something that has to be apart of my every day, so I absolutely appreciated this event. Plus with snacks, water, and of course MORE FREE GOODIES it made every part of the workout session worth it.

Part Two of the day consisted of styling and fashion shows powered by Dia and Co and The Loft fashion stores.  . For Platinum members, a Style Session Lunch was provided by The Loft in Times Square presented by Goo Goo Atkins and I must say the food and information was excellent. I learned so much about how to style mulitple  closet staples in varying ways and grew an appreciation for The Loft and their focus on quality and fit. Later in the evening there was an invite only fashion show for all Glitter and Platinum ticket holders presented by Dia and Co and The Loft.Celebrity appearances by Venus Williams, GooGoo Atkins, and Lizzo were all made giving much insight on confidence, fashion, and overall motivation to put your best self forward. It was amazing to hear how each individual came into this industry and what motivates them to stay positive and constantly growing in the realms of fashion and business.  In addition, the model in me was excited to see some models that I adore and aspire to be such as Denise Bidot, Tabria Myers, Erica Lauren, Hunter McGrady, Yasmine Arrington, and many others walking on the runway or in the audience.  It felt amazing to be in a room full of women pioneering the way for curves across the world. It also is wonderful to have access to the inside workings of  stakeholders with brands who are influential and want to hear our voices when it comes to style and product offering.

Day Three: The Curvy Con Experience

So Sadly my phone absolutely failed me sooo much on this day. It was hardly charged all day, but fortunately, I was able to grab some footage and most importantly, experience all the information of the panels.  The only downside is the 10 am panel was cancelled that addressed the business side of blogging, fashion, and entrepreneurship….which I was super excited for, but honestly the experience of all the other panels made up for it. I wish I could give the full recap of every panel but at the same time, It was sooo much useful information you would just need to be there to take it all in. From confidence, to career advice, to love, sex, dating, and business while being curvy, no topic was left uncovered.

Now….to what had me distracted…..the SHOPPING! Let me be the first to say I went over budget completely but it was no surprise when the best of the best fashion pieces were available first hand for all the guests. Just to name a few present; Rue107, JIBRI, LIVE RAE, ELOQUII, Macy’s, Rachel Roy, Simblybe, Lane Bryant, Rebdolls, Dia and Co, JcPenny’s and many many more.  My wallet betrayed me on many occassions during the day. However, what I appreciated is that many items had to be ordered and shipped, which was helpful because I honestly was struggling for room in my luggage and literally had to make two trips back to the room with stuff I purchased (this didn’t even include the platinum swag bag).  I feel prepared for fall completely after leaving last week.

In Closing, what I appreciated mainly was the catering, selection of items, the ability to customize, and the simple perks for being platinum.  With the lunch provided, the huge swag bags, the numerous events with catered food, the discount codes offered, prizes, free gifts, I do not regret one penny spent. My suggestion for everyone wanting to attend the CurvyCon for the first time, make the investment and get the platinum ticket. The access to invite only events, press, the amount of goodies is absolutely worth it.  See the unbagging of all items below, I tried to fit everything in one pic but I can’t pretend like I was even successful, it was way too many items to capture:

I hope I see you at Next Year’s Event!

With Love,

LoLo
