FIT Motivation Mondays:

Good Morning Babies,

Although my posting on Instagram and Facebook has decreased regarding fitness….doesn’t mean that behind the scenes I’m not working on greatness. Now that I can fit a new size in my workout clothes, I have rededicated myself to meal prepping again….only this time, I’m challenging myself not to mimic restaurant favorites with a healthy spin. This week I decided to make Chicken Corn Chowder inspired by Paneras new Corn Chowder for their Summer menu.

I added more meat and less potatoes to watch my starch intake but otherwise the recipe is amazing. The recipe is for 5 to 6 at 512 calories a bowl. I doubled the recipe and plan to eat a cup to go along with my salads, making the serving size about 300 calories.

To try this recipe out follow this link:
If you love it, leave some feedback and let me know what you think. Have a wonderful FIT week Curvy family.

Fierce Fridays – The Distressed Sweater Dress

Good Morning Loves,

So since Spring decided to reappear this week after several hot days, it was time to pull out the ever so comfortable sweater dress from TNT Unique Designs, a mobile Boutique in the DMV area. Today is a light day for me so I decided to run my Costco errands in a little style. This dress is so lightweight and breathable due to the open knit construction. The most fabulous aspect is that its truly one size fits all, with so much room to move around and feel comfortable throughout the day. Unfortunately, this color is sold out completely but the white and black versions are still available at the links below:

Hope you Love it As much as I do!!!!!

Wisdom Wednesdays: Let the Past be THE PAST

Good Morning Loves,

It’s May and I’m so excited for the warmer weather and just the rebirth of all the flowers and greenery sprouting. Additionally, I am super excited for the new direction I will be taking with my blog so definitely stay tuned starting this week for more upcoming changes. To start, I will definitely be sharing more of my wisdom moments and life experiences on the Wisdom Wednesday’s….with today’s topic being Let the Past Be the Past.

You may be thinking I’m speaking on forgiveness but in this instance I’m speaking on allowing negative people or individuals that are limited in their growth (which directly slows down your personal growth) from re-entering your life. I know in a perfect world, we like to think people have the capacity to change and most of us truly believe we have changed when in reality….many people do not slow down enough to truly reflect on their flaws enough to work on them. I’m more so speaking on personality flaws rather than other flaws, because it is much harder to accept that something that we’ve grown to become could be considered flawed to someone else. The reality is, many adults don’t change and even if the start of a rekindled relationship seems different 9 times out of 10 the very reason the relationship ended in the first place begins to resurface.

I recently just endured this, because my heart wanted to believe that this individual had become a greater person and evolved from the immaturity they once were. However in just a few short months, I was swiftly reminded of every single reason I didn’t allow this person to remain a constant energy in my aura. Not only do I feel like I’ve wasted time, I feel insulted that I truly gave this person a chance to prove me wrong. Sometimes as women we have to learn to stop breaking our own hearts by reopening doors God intended to close. It’s okay to place a deadbolt on a relationship without feeling guilty. Not allowing someone to exist in your present is not a sign of unforgiving it’s a sign of moving forward in your growth. Let Go and Let Grow. Enjoy your day loves.

Shape Up: Best Body Shapers for Pear Body Types

Good Morning Loves,

So I am often asked what type of shapewear do I use for those special occasions, and although I cannot speak for every woman, I can speak for what helps those pear shaped divas out there. I decided to compile a short list of brands and shapewear that I have ACTUALLY used to assist my pear babies on their journey to being snatched under their garments.  This list isn’t limited to pears shapes, but I do know that it really works well with pear shapes. Please click the hyper links, as it will take you directly where you need to go, to purchase each item.

  1. High Waist Miracle Suit – If you have that little kangaroo pouch like myself, this bad boy will sleek it on out making you like you were born with a flat stomach for the gawds. For photoshoots I love to pair her with my squeem, which will be reviewed next. later down the list.
  2. Squeem Waist Cincher – WARNING this garment is not comfortable by any means but if you want to have a slim waist and no back fat under a fitted dress, this is your best friend. However, I do not suggest this for extended wear throughout the day because the boning will squeeze tight against your sides.
  3. Me Moi SlimMe High Waist shapewear – I wore this bad boy in an XL (probably should have gotten an XXL) and it does much better than the spanx brand. I truly love the way it slims the stomach and thighs and contours the waist. I usually don’t like many thigh trimming shapewear combos, but this is one of my favorites.
  4. Shape by Cacique Illusion Open Bust Body Suit – I have to buy another one!!!! However, this is like getting lipo in one step. The price point is a little higher than the other options, but you will not regret it if you want a full body contour to your shape.
  5. Lover Beauty Underbust Corset – Not ready to invest in a squeem, here is the very very suitable alternative. I don’t train my waist, however, if you are interested in doing so, this one is much more comfortable than the squeem for half the cost. Additionally, you will absolutely get that shape you are seeking with this product.
  6. Waist Snatchers Curve’  – I personally have yet to try this one, however, the reviews from women on social media have made me a firm believer that this product is worth the investment. I plan to get one soon and do a full review in a later post.
  7. Spanx Everyday shaping panty – now I’m not a huge fan of most spanx products but I do love these. If you just need a little boost of confidence daily with moderate control, these will be your best friend for my pear shaped women who suffer from a little lower belly bulge (like myself). I swear these keep me feeling my best day in and day out

If you have one that I haven’t listed and think I should try, definitely leave a comment below or on the comments section of the blog.  I hope this list at least gets you started on your way as it definitely assists me on my journey until I can live shaper free. Have a Happy Monday and First Week of April.

Good Evening Lovelies,

So today I had a ladies brunch, and even though I felt like crap about my body….I was excited that a pair of jeans that usually fit so tight I can’t walk were actually manageable. It let me know that progress had been made and that I indeed am slowly getting myself to a healthier place. What’s even better is I didn’t finish my dessert, which lets me know I’m growing in my journey! Here are some quick shots of today’s brunch attire for the coming of spring:

Top: Forever 21 Plus

Jeans: Fashion to Figure

Vest: Ashley Stewart

Boots: Torrid

A Seat At The Table with Tavira Tapley of TNT Unique Designs

Good Afternoon Loves,

As you know being a curvy woman has its benefits, but it also has its disadvantages, particularly in the world of fashion. Many women have a hard time finding custom designed pieces that truly embrace their identity through fashion.  However, TNT Unique Designs is one plus boutique that has been breaking the mold in plus designs by offering high-quality, diversified, and affordable options to women of all shapes and sizes in the curvy community.  After working with her on a few of her print campaigns in 2016 I was inspired to discover what lead her to this journey of not only being a provider of fashion, but being a female voice for the plus size community.  She provided some excellent words of wisdom, encouragement, and business insight:

COC: Why did you enter the Plus Fashion Industry:

Tavira: Well first of all, I am plus size myself and I wanted to have quality clothes that were not being worn by everyone due to limited boutiques offering plus sized clothing.  I was tired of showing up to events and parties and seeing 4 other women with my same dress on because we all shop at the same store because it’s the only store in town that sells edgy clothing for plus women.

COC: LeSe Williams is your house model correct? How does she represent the TNT Brand and Image?

Tavira: LeSe has the body type that truly represents what being a plus brand is. She is a size 3x with a full curvy body and that to me is what plus size women are looking for when they shop.  Most women who shop with my boutique are not a size 10 through 14, so it doesn’t make sense for me to use a model that truly doesn’t convey what my clothes will look like on them.  They want to see true plus size representation and that is what I offer with my brand.

COC: What was the biggest challenge you faced starting your boutique?

Tavira: It was hard trying to find my target market because I wanted to please everyone. Eventually, I came to the realization that I had to offer what I saw fit and represented the direction in fashion that I found most trendy and unique.

COC: Why did you choose to be a mobile boutique instead of having a storefront?

Tavira:  I know a lot of boutique owners and I know that I could have a store but I want to keep my prices as low as possible. A store front is a lot of upkeep and the in order to meet the cost margins, I would have to mark up my clothing.  I have seen dresses inside of other boutiques that are selling it for $140.00 that I am offering for $79.00 because they have to take into account of all the expenses of maintaining that store when they price their product. They have to place it at a price point so that they can profit from the sell of the item and have money to pay for necessary store upkeep. Additionally, I want my customers to leave with the feeling that it is affordable to look great. That it won’t take a whole lot to look amazing, and still feel that the clothing is of high quality. That is What TNT Unique Designs is about.  Additionally, being a mobile boutique makes it easier to network  with different business opportunities in the area.  I can take my business wherever I go and be able to capitalize from that experience.

COC: What trends is TNT focusing on this Spring?

Tavira:  Lots of neon yellow and royal blue pieces. More items with fringe and tassel details.

COC:  I see that you occasionally showcase your boutique in fashion shows throughout the East Coast, do you ever host Model Calls for these opportunities?

Tavira: No, I have my models that I have built a strong relationship with that I know I can depend on when I need to host events or present at fashion shows.

COC: What is the one piece of advice you would give plus size women when it comes to fashion?

Tavira:  Never be intimidated to try something new and to embrace your curves. They are beautiful and you should own every part of yourself.  You don’t have to cover up and hide behind your clothes.

COC: What are some future projects that you are working on?

Tavira:  One of my future aspirations is to start a swimsuit line for TNT Unique Designs, it will be a distant goal due to the research and finding the right material and designs I want but it is definitely something I have been simmering on for quite some time.  Another goal I am working on is creating a workshop for female entrepreneurs to teach them some of the tools I used to start my business and build my success and to also build a networking opportunity in the DMV area for women to meet and feel empowered.

It was definitely an honor being able to speak with Mrs. Tapley and really getting a better understanding of her and the TNT Unique Designs Brand.  Below are some of my favorite looks offered at TNT Unique Designs. Click the link to go directly to her website and shop Today!!!!

Wisdom Wednesdays: Take Care Of YOU First

Good Morning Loves,

This weeks Wisdom Wednesday Moment is entitled: Take Care Of You First.  One thing that I have learned throughout my years is that you cannot be an asset to someone if you do not have yourself in order.  I know that I have been guilty of wanting to help out everyone out of the kindness of my heart, but if YOU aren’t together…you become more of a liability than a asset. You truly become stripped of resources and are left feeling emptier than ever before.

It is imperative that you get your life together first, male and female alike. This may piss people off, you may lose a friend, but in the end….when you are put together, you then are in a better position to be more charitable to those around you.  It is okay to have selfish periods in your life, not to hurt others, but to heal and rebuild who you are.  Many people in my life have accused me of being detached or not as available, but really it is because for years I gave my all to everyone around me ALL THE TIME. So much so, I was left without, struggling, and trying to figure out how to maintain myself. It lead to unhealthy emotional distress, and just physical exhaustion.  I also was left feeling overall taken advantage of. It never feels too hot to be taken advantage of.

One of my courses of action was to seek professional guidance in a therapist to try and regain my strength to love on ‘me’ again without feeling guilty or obligated to tend to everyone else before myself.  I highly recommend therapy (even though it is shunned by many) because it truly does assist in helping you sort out and pinpoint areas of improvement and zones of error.  I also suggest that your therapist be of a religious faith so that their first suggestion isn’t some form of medication but rather prayer and empathy. 2015 was such a monumental shift in my way of thinking and believing in what it meant to self-love in the form of taken care of my responsibility to myself in order to fully love and assist everyone around me.  I had to get to the realization that no matter how much of myself I give; some people will just not like you. Some people will never give back in return what you give to them, and that is okay. Most importantly, I learned that you cannot give from an empty space physically, spiritually, or emotionally if you do not have it all together.  In order to be strong for others in your life, you have to have the strength to endure others issues.

Starting 2017, I can honestly say that I have taken that time for self and am in a much better place understanding that it’s not mean to put yourself first at times.  Sometimes the word “no” is needed and the more you can use it when it is appropriate the better off you feel because you aren’t taking on more than you can bear.  Those who get angry for loving yourself first and building your worth, kingdom, finances up….truly do not need to hold priority in your circle.  Those that love you, always make an attempt to understand and support your well-being.  So in closing, make sure you learn to take the time to put yourself as a priority to be a before you commit too much of yourself to those around you.

Love Always,
