Stop Selling Out Girl: No more excuses and No more Diet Propaganda

Hello Lovelies!!!

So today’s topic is simply is it’s time to just STOP making excuses and buying into the diet hype of the modern day era. Let me be the first to provide this disclaimer: If you are on a regimen that works for you, by all means KEEP ON DOING WHAT WORKS FOR YOU. This post solely is speaking on my experience and what I know to be my truth of diet culture and the fads within it.

Le’t just try to name all of the diets as of 2019 shall we; Keto, Whole 30, South Beach, Paleo, Weight Watchers, Herbalife, Clean Eating and all its variations, Gluten-Free, and I could go on and on. Each one has it’s pros and cons, and all include some variation of elimination of a food group (except maybe weight watchers because it seems like they eat a little of everything) guaranteeing some level of miraculous weight-loss. If not a food group elimination, its some process in food that is eliminated, some seasoning, some cooking fat, some level of taste, it’s always something. What I will say is that clearly it is obvious that unhealthy eating or adding processed foods to your regular eating plan is risky, so I won’t say I disagree with many of the diets that have gained popularity. However, what I will say is, I’ve done almost any and everything and couldn’t stick to anything.

This is what all these Diets promise: Slim, Trim, and Happy lol

I would do one for a couple of months, then boom back to binge eating and over indulgence due to feeling so deprived. Of course it’s mind over matter, but in many cases, restrictions cause people to fall hard back into old habits, almost like being an addict. It has been confirmed that food addictions are real, especially when you begin eating in such a way that eliminates so much of what you have been conditioned to eat for years. Now for me, having PCOS has definitely been a restriction within itself, because my way of eating has been altered for many years. Now that I also have Diabetes, I was like, goodness! What more can I not eat this time. I had spent years doing a yo-yo with my eating. Hoping from one fad to the next in hopes that these restrictions would finally one day be my breakthrough.

This is really the Plug. Period.

Then….the light came on! No restriction is needed! Moderation is needed, balance is NEEDED, the lack of excuses must stop! Yes I am diabetic, Yes I have PCOS, but that doesn’t mean that I need to approach this in a drastic diet fad. Yes low carb is the best option for me, but not NO Carb. Yes, its bad to eat too much processed food, but reality is unless you grow it, you can’t even guarantee that it’s not processed a tad this day and age. I had come to the realization that all of the failures lie with me. Don’t get me wrong, I have barriers to health. I know that I will have to face those barriers head to head. However, I have to stop trying to find short cuts and remixes to just living a balanced life spiritually, physically, and mentally.

Of course, with being Diabetic and having PCOS, certain fads I can’t indulge in, like veganism because I can’t indulge in carbs as much, even if its deemed healthy, but I can live with balance. What I also had to accept is that working out is my best friend. From supplements, to fat burners, to quick cleanses, to detox teas…..nothing is going to replace doing it the good ol fashioned way. PCOS needs that total body commitment. I think that applies to every human walking this earth. I implore you to do it the right way. I repeat, that if something works for you, by all means continue on, but if you keep failing with everything like I had been, maybe its time to stop making the excuse of it not working and you putting in THE WORK. I am no longer going to cry and be a victim to myself, but more so do what it takes (even if surgery ends up being the answer). I am not going to cry knowing I’m eating cookies nightly, ordering Door Dash three times a week, and then being ‘surprised’ by the scale or my test results (yes this was a real phase during 2018). It’s time to stop with diet culture, expecting results from exclusion of total food groups, and to put in the work.

I hope you join me in doing the WORK all 2019. No more Selling Out.

With Love,

LoLo

All of this! I can’t tell you how many diet plans have been suggested to me! Ice tried all that stuff and I know I can’t adhere. Since I’ve focused on just being balanced in my food choices I’m feeling much better mentally!

Me too! There is no Fad to this I have learned that balance is key. Just learning it and realizing too much of anything can be harmful. I firmly believe that is what God wants from us.
